Compositing and Special Effects - Final Project

Liam Yue Wei (0327686) Compositing and Special Effects Final Project Ideation Process (Theme, Storyline) The theme for our projects this semester had been decided and it is about the impact of technology bringing an end to human world. Based on this theme, I have come up with few ideas that can be developed further in later stages. 1. Androids (Humanoid Robots) living among us, expressing emotions like humans and eventually taking over human world. 2. Humans taking advantage of technology by making clones/ android. There lives a girl who made her own clone so that her life can be easier, as they look like exactly same, she makes her clone go to school for her, take exams and such without anyone knowing about this secret, not even her family. Not only their looks are alike, but their emotions, thoughts, intelligence too are the same. Except that the clone learns a lot faster (she is like computer system) and is more diligent than the girl herself. Everything was so perfect, p...

Games Design - Projects

26/03/2018 (Week 1) Liam Yue Wei (0327686) Games Design Project 1 PROJECT 1      This week, we started to do some research and explore the existing games to study and obtain inspirations. I started off by looking at some of my favorite 2D games and some concept arts to study and observe. These are what I have found:  Games Kingdom Classic Oxygen Not Included Mad Father     These 3 games I have here are different from the games where on-screen characters always go from left to right in game play. However, they might be able to give me some inspirations.     Kingdom Classic and Oxygen Not Included are strategic games, with simple concept and rules especially Kingdom Classic. Whereas Mad Father is a horror pixel game with stories, plot twist, and puzzle-solving. However, these 3 games are common in their goal: To survive till the end of the game. (Or survive as long as possible) Concept Art Moodboard 1...

Project - Researching

Liam Yue Wei (0327686) Usability and Mobile Application I Project - Researching Planning Week 4 We were asked to list down 3 to 4 ideas that we have at the moment for the project. I have done a little bit of researching on different types of applications. In my case, I sort of prefer lifestyle applications. 1. Health and Fitness 2. Productivity App 3. Music Doing research on categories of application I have done some research on the topic that I am most interested in at the moment, health and fitness app. The reasons for health and fitness mobile apps to be successful nowadays is because they are more convenient and they have many benefits for us: 1. Able to store amount of data such as prescription, diet and workout plan. 2. Monitoring the physical state is faster and easier. 3. All obtained data can be easily transferred to physician. 4. Motivate lazy and busy people to do workout.  5. Sometimes can save one's life. Categ...

Compositing and Special Effects - Project 1

26/03/2018 - 06/04/2018 Liam Yue Wei (0327686) Compositing and Special Effects Project Progress Week 1 - Do thumbnails for ideation process. It doesn't have to be complex, it can be simple, just thumbnails, and update it with latest ideas. - For thumbnails, it has to be sketch + description. This is to let the teammates (for the work) to understand your ideas. - In compositing and special effects, it is crucial to obey the rule of 180 degree camera, it is not good to let the camera shift too much as it will make the audience confused. We were reminded that we can recreate from the existing movies for our project 1. Editing and compositing are different. Also, we were told to pay more attention to:  - Color scheme - Typography - Lighting - 2D animated or 3D movies - Point of interest (in the opening title sequence)  - Genre - Mood boards (find reference and extract images) - Ending titles (for more inspiration) Week 2 Mood Board: Mood Boa...

Games Design - Lectures and Tutorials

26/03/2018 - 30/03/2018 (Week 1) Liam Yue Wei (0327686) Games Design Introduction to Games Design Lecture 27/03/2018 (Tuesday) For this module, we were instructed to download Unity for the software: 1. 2D Game Kit (More popular nowadays especially for mobile games) 2. Cinemachine (Gives cool camera) 3. Post Processing 4. Timeline (Let you merge scenes like how we do in Adobe Premiere Pro) 5. Octane (Gives beautiful rendering) - Our project in this semester is to create side-scrolling game, known as 2D games or side scroller. Side-scrolling game is a video game where game play action is viewed from a  side-view camera angle. Onscreen characters generally move from the left side of the screen to the right. - Our lecturer told us to explore game concepts. Game concept and concept art, again are two different things.  - Tilemap is a very popular technique in 2D game development, consisting of building the game world or level map out of small, regular-sha...
