29/08/2018 - 14/12/2018
Week 1 - Week 16
Liam Yue Wei (0327686)
Usability & Mobile Application II
Mr.Razif and Mr.Kannan

Week 1

Lecture
Mr. Kannan showed us few examples of mobile apps done by our seniors. He gave us some briefing on what to be expected in the module. He reminded us to be good at time management, he recommended us to make gantt chart when we do project so that we can always keep track of the time and plans we have.

Mr.Kannan learned about our idea from previous semester which is Usability and Mobile Application I. He gave us some feedback and ideas of his, he also asked for our final project from before to be uploaded from the google drive link and to be submitted to him.

Tutorial
We learned about Information mapping from Mr.Razif. This is a group exercise and I did this with Abigail, Sharon, and Hui Li.

Website issues:
  1. Layout and arrangement not consistent > The secondary informations in each sections especially Why Design At Taylor's and Programmes.
  2. There is no divider or clear separation between each sections.
  3. Facilities section needs to be more tidy and organized. The layout is okay but probably something that can lead audience's eyes to the right content to read. Maybe can use different color for each rows. For example White background/ Red background.

Arrangement:

  1. Academics
  2. Admission
  3. Alumni
  4. Student Portfolio
  5. Facilities/ Life at Taylor's

Week 2

Lecture
Revising my app with Mr.Kannan
Schot Selling Point:
  • Help people have easier access to their pictures/ notes
  • Able to take photo/ upload picture in the files in organized way.
  • Able to write note for the certain
It solves the problem of people having disorganized phone gallery, it is hard for them to refer back to the picture they need to see because they have to scroll. For example, need to often refer to the screenshot of the timetable.

In this app, people can organize the files and + some notes to it, so they can put as many things they want into this app and organize to however they want to.

Target Audience:
  • University students (18-22) [primary]
  • Working adults [secondary]
Font: Roboto

Design Style: Minimalist

Add more function ....maybe... project management/ ToDo list

Tips for minimalist design: https://uxplanet.org/the-art-of-minimalism-in-mobile-app-ui-design-b21aa671dd7f

My opinion on my design from the previous semester:
- Kind of too plain.
- Should try changing the color scheme.

My progress on the project can be viewed in: This link!!

Tutorial
In class, we did another exercise using RealTimeBoard. This exercise focuses on usability and the features an app has. It also helps us to see whether or not the app is meaningful enough and how to improve it from there.

  • Knowing more about the business can help us create a better app.
  • Use www.realtimeboard.com  > Board > Business Mobile..
  • Make sure that the app name that I create isn't used.
  • Key partners: Those who can help your business grow.
  • Key proposition: How to make your customers happy.
  • Customer Segments: Target audience.
  • Customer relationship: How do you maintain your customers.
  • Key Resources: Who can make your idea work.
  • Channels: How to reach customers. (Will be related to the key resources.)
  • Revenue Stream: How much do you plan to earn.
  • Cost structure: How much you going to spend in certain period.

    User Persona
In this group exercise, we did an exercise using a friend's app. We all decided to go with Sharon's app. We created some user personas and we asked our classmates to give feedback for her app.

    Week 5

    Lecture
-Consultation with Mr.Kannan on the porject//Feedbacks can be viewed in HERE-

    Tutorial
We proceed with the group exercise we did last week. We have to make a board of user experience, their steps of using the app, the possible feedback from them and so on.

    1. Scenario: user's steps of using the app.
    2. Customer goals: user's goals in this app.
    3. Conversion rate: (-)
    4. Customer experiences: troubles that users have in the app.
    5. Verbal feedback: user's feedback for the app.

Mr. Razif told us to just focus on 4 of them which is the scenario, customer goals, customer experiences and verbal feedback. Conversion rate can be neglected and therefore, I removed that section from the real time board. In this group exercise, my group decided to do the board together for everyone's app so that it is fair.

    Reflection

    Experience
There are a lot of group exercises in this semester but it is quite interesting doing this with friends.

    Observation
I noticed that mobile app is all about how to make it convenient for people to use the app. This is completely different from the other kind of design modules like Game Design, which I can design however I want to. This module, is more about how users use the app and how we can improve the app so that it can become an enjoyable experience for them.

    Findings
I realized that user experience is very important in the development of a mobile app, however, the designs also should not be neglected. This is because attractive designs may entertain the users. However, there is no point if the mobile app is not meaningful.

The target audience is for children between 6-12 years old. You may use images and video from the internet or you can illustrate to make the content even more interesting. Below are the content that you need to include in the Website. You need to create a storyboard/site structure so that it is easier for you to plan the page and the flow of the Website. You may include sounds or use Adobe Animate to have a whole new experience of interactive Website. What to do in a fire (This will be the title of the Website) Introduction Fire drills are a big part of being safe in school: They prepare you for what you need to do in case of a fire. But what if there was a fire where you live? Would you know what to do? Talking about fires can...
