Week 1

Tutorial
During class, we have used Unity software to try out how Augmented Reality (AR) can be done. Before using Unity, we have to go to a website (https://www.vuforia.com/). Steps are written below:

  1. Under vuforia engine, click 'Learn More'.
  2. Dev Portal.
  3. Sign up or Log in.
  4. Get Development Key.
  5. When done, click on Target Manager on the tab.
  6. Create Database, make sure 'Devices' is chosen for the Type.
  7. In the database you created, click on 'Add Target'.
  8. Choose 'Single Image', browse a picture you want to use and put '5' for the width.
  9. When done, select the target and click on 'Download Database'.
  10. Install the database.
In Unity

  1. File > Build Settings > Player Setting > Install AR or choose Augmented Reality
  2. Right-click on the hierarchy > vuforia > AR Camera > Open Vuforia configuration.
  3. Go to vuforia website, copy and paste the license key from website to the unity.
  4. Add database and make sure to choose the right image.
  5. From the Image Target, choose 'Predefined' for Type. Choose the right database and image target.
  6. On the Image Target, right-click > 3D object > Cube > Adjust it however.
  7. Click Play and show the image to the camera.
Other than just using basic shapes, we can also get free assets from assets store. Just remember to import after that.

  14. Exit the hall.
  15. Use toilet.
  16. Second round on binge watching.
  17. Go home.

Space

  • Some seats are too near to the screen, may as well remove those. (inside the hall)
  • Seats are too close to each other.

Toilet

  • The toilet is near the public space and it can be smelly.
  •  Limited amount of toilet/ toilet stalls (Many people)

Service

  • Sometimes the queue is very long
  • Provide more kiosk machine
  • Provide more self service check-iin machine.

Cinema

  • Guides are not available during movie.
  • Hall is not in sequence.
  • Uncomfortable seats, want to change to world class sofa.
  • Option for seats for handicap.

Solution
Experience
  • Have (lit) row and seat numbers placed on the floor to guide customers to their seats. [So that they can see in darkness]
  • More spaces between the rows (less chances of people stepping on each other or kicking the person’s seat).
  • More toilet stalls and signage.
  • Have more counters or vending machines available outside the halls for easy access to purchase food or drinks.
  • Provide more kiosk machine for you to buy ticket and for check in.
  • Extendable armrest seats or have an option to rent.

Week 4

-No lecture due to Public Holiday-

Tutorial
Consultation with Mr.Razif on the project.

Week 5

Lecture
We used the time we have to complete our proposal for Augmented Reality project. The proposal is for us to propose the idea we have for the app and soon needs to be given approval by the lecturer.

My project for Experiential Design: Link to the page!

Tutorial
In class, we were challenged to make a scanner appear in our scene, but it also disappear when the object is being scanned.

Week 6

Lecture
Feedback on the proposal was given by the Mr.Razif.

-No tutorial-

Week 7

-No lecture-

-No tutorial-

Week 8

-No lecture-

Tutorial
In class, we have learned how to add video player to our AR when the object is being scanned, the video pops up and will play the moment it is being scanned. This is to be done in Unity. Furthermore, we managed to learn how to do the coding in order to make the video stop when the object is not being scanned anymore, otherwise, it will keep on playing.

Week 9

-No lecture-

Tutorial
More to consultation, however, we had to submit all the exercise files we have done in class from week 1 till now.

Week 10

-No lecture-

Tutorial
Consultation.

Week 11

-No lecture/ tutorial due to holidays-

Week 12

-No lecture/ tutorial-

Week 13

-No lecture/ tutorial-

Week 14

Consultation with Mr.Razif if there are any issues or questions.

Reflection

Experience
To be honest, making AR can be fun, but there are times where it is frustrating as there will be errors. Furthermore, sometimes it doesn't work although we follow the instruction, that's where we need to drill into our head and figure out the reason so that we can solve the issue.

Observation
I noticed that it is not hard to create an AR, the only hard part is to come up with something unique/ polished/ interesting. Other than that, I also noticed that AR is like mobile app/ website. It is a user experience, what I learned from the lecturer is that most of the time, when we want to create something new and meaningful, it is advisable to think about what issue we want to solve/ how to make things convenient for people.

Findings
Better have fun while creating AR so that the AR itself can become more interesting. Also, perhaps the designer needs to be more familiar with Unity so that there are less problems to deal with while doing AR.
